An attunement is a method used by a Reiki Master to 'attune' a student to Reiki.
An attunement is usually only given during initiation in Reiki at each level.
An attunement is performed in a very prescribed manner involving the use of many Reiki symbols, and uses the concept of 'inserting' the symbols 'into' a student.
Different symbols are used at the different levels, with more symbols used at each level.

An empowerment is a method used by a Reiki Master to bring a student to Reiki.
An empowerment can be performed repeatedly to help both students and practitioners improve their connection to Reiki.
An empowerment is performed in a much simpler way than an attunement. At Reiki Level 1, it does not involve the use of Reiki symbols. At Reiki Level 2, there are a couple of symbols used to increase the effectiveness of the empowerment, but the symbols are not strictly required once already at this level.

This is a question you may be asking yourself right now !
 
Well .. to answer this, let me describe the difference I felt when I received both on the same day.
Firstly, I received an attunement to take me from Level 2 to Level 3, and the feeling was quite gentle to begin with but then, a few moments later, it hit me! The new energies hit me a bit like being hit round the head with a baseball bat !! My whole being was trembling, and I felt very unsteady.
When I received the empowerment for Level 3, it was like bathing in warm water, and a warm tingling surrounded my whole being.

As a result of this experience, whenever I initiate students to Levels 1 and 2, I use empowerments in preference to attunements as I think this is a much better introduction to the Reiki energies. I will, when requested by a student, use attunements instead of empowerments, and for Level 3 will use both as a matter of course, as a newly trained Reiki Master must be able to perform both and it is always good to know how different they feel.

If you would like to receive an empowerment and are a Level 1 or Level 2 student or practitioner, then I can perform an empowerment for the same price as a 1/2 hour treatment session.
If I do not have a booking after the empowerment, and you have brought a companion, you could then spend another 1/2 hour giving energy to them. In this way, you would be able judge the benefits immediately.

I recommend that all those at Reiki Level 1 and 2 who may feel there is something missing should give it a try. After all, for the price of a 1/2 hour treatment, you may get some real benefit, who knows !!
